Sunday Religious School ~ End of the Year Report

Religious School at Temple Chai for the Madi and Aiden ended at the end of April.  During the course of the year the kids learned so much about Judaism while also having fun and making new friends.  Here are some of the things the kids experienced this past year in Hebrew School:
  • About the very meaningful Jewish holidays (including Sukkot, Hanukkah, Tu B'Shevat, Purim, Pesach), their customs and traditions, as well as learning about the stories presented in the Book of Genesis, including the Story of Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, the then following through with many other stories recounted in the Torah.
  • They concentrated on the Jewish mitzvah of Tzedakah, as well as several other mitzvot (G'milut Chasadim), namely the obligations that we as Jewish people are required to do.
  • The children enjoyed learning, reciting and learning to recognize the letters of the Aleph Bet, and each of the students worked diligently each week on a couple of Hebrew Letters,  to create their own individual Aleph Bet 'Book'.
  • Each week the students have enjoyed a very meaningful "Shabbat" experience, helping them become very familiar with the Shabbat Blessings for the Candles, the kiddish, and the challah. They even learned about Havdalah and created their own spice box.
  • They also enjoyed Music together with Cantor Wolman (and some song leaders) on a weekly basis, learning some wonderful songs, Hebrew words, and having fun together.
  • They learned how olive oil is made, even took the pits out of the olives.
  • They learned about mezuzzahs and the Star of David.
  • They made their own afikomen covers for Passover.
  • And they learned about many of the places in Israel including the Dead Sea, The Western Wall, and Jaffa.
Madi was asked this year what she learned and what she enjoyed the most during Religious School. Her answer:  “I learned that we light the candles on Shabbat and loved the art work we did.”

We are so lucky we had amazing teachers whom the kids loved and kept us updated on our kids progress through the year with photos and weekly updates.  What a great learning opportunity for our kids!
