July 2024 ~ Jenn and Josh's Mexico Adventure

July 2024 also gave Josh and me the chance to reconnect as a couple while the kids were away. We embarked on not one, but two transformative trips to Mexico, exploring its vibrant capital and relaxing on the serene coast.

Exploring the Heart of Mexico City
Our first adventure took us to Mexico City, where we explored its rich culture and dynamic energy alongside our friends Jackie and Richard. Each day, we rented bikes to traverse the city’s iconic landmarks:

  • Museo Nacional de Antropología: A captivating journey through Mexico’s history and heritage.
  • Parque Chapultepec: A vast urban park perfect for cycling and absorbing the local atmosphere.
  • Casa de Frida Kahlo: An intimate glimpse into the life of the legendary artist.
  • Palacio Nacional: Home to Diego Rivera’s iconic murals, showcasing Mexican culture in breathtaking detail.
We mostly traveled on foot or via rental bikes.  It allowed us to really get a feel for the local culture.  Sampling local pastries from diverse bakeries and local cuisine was an unexpected highlight.

One of the most anticipated parts of our trip was was our final evening in Mexico City when we dined at Pujol, a Michelin-starred restaurant known for its innovative take on Mexican cuisine.

The experience at Pujol is one we will never forget. The service was impeccable, and the dishes were creative, unique, and beautifully presented. One standout was their famous mole, a complex and flavorful dish that embodies the richness of Mexican culinary tradition. However, Josh and I also tried the cricket appetizer—an adventurous choice. Unfortunately, Josh didn’t feel well afterward and suspects it may have given him food poisoning, which cast a shadow over an otherwise exceptional evening.

Unwinding on the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa Coast
After immersing ourselves in the vibrant city, we extended our journey to the tranquil shores of Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa. Staying at the luxurious Cala del Mar, we indulged in fresh seafood, relaxed in our private plunge pool, and recharged amidst the stunning coastal scenery.

Our time was blissfully slow-paced. We ventured out occasionally to explore nearby towns and biked along the scenic Ciclopista Ecológica, a winding trail offering breathtaking views. The peaceful atmosphere was the perfect counterbalance to the lively energy of Mexico City.

A Month to Remember
Our Mexican adventures offered the perfect blend of exploration and relaxation. They allowed us to recharge, strengthen our bond, and return home feeling renewed. July 2024 reminded us of the importance of carving out time for ourselves and the joy of experiencing new places together.
