September brought a mix of thrilling accomplishments, cherished memories, and a startling moment that reminded us of what matters most. Here’s how our family navigated this eventful month:
Madilyn’s High School Adventures
Madilyn embraced her freshman year at Xavier College Preparatory by fully immersing herself in the social scene. She joined her XCP friends at most of the Brophy College Preparatory varsity football home games, enjoying the camaraderie and excitement of high school sports. She has also embraced the high energy and class rivalries that develop during XCP's school rallies. During one of the games in September, Madilyn asked a couple of her girlfriends to attend Homecoming together. Watching her navigate this new chapter with confidence and joy has been heartwarming.
Aiden Joins the Volleyball Team
Aiden decided to try out for the Mountain Sky Junior High volleyball team and was thrilled to make the team! September was packed with practices and games, and Aiden loved every moment. His enthusiasm for the sport was infectious, and we loved cheering him on at his matches. It’s been amazing to watch him grow as a team player and develop new skills.
Cheer Tumbling Lessons for Madilyn
With her goal of making the XCP cheer team next year, Madilyn started private cheer tumbling lessons. She’s determined to master her skills, and her dedication to improving has been inspiring. It’s wonderful to see her work so hard toward something she’s passionate about.
A Scary Wake-Up Call
In the early hours of Saturday, September 21st, we were awoken by a loud bang and quickly realized that our neighbors’ house was on fire—just 10 feet away from ours. Josh immediately called 911, and within minutes, over seven fire trucks were dispatched to our street. The fire spread quickly, with vehicles and propane tanks in the carport adding to the danger.
Fearing the fire might spread to our newly renovated home, we decided to evacuate. While Madilyn wasn’t home that night, we woke Aiden and got the dogs out of the house. It was a tense few hours, but we were relieved to return home safely after 3:00 a.m. with minimal damage—a broken window in our master bedroom caused by the heat of the fire. This experience was a stark reminder of how quickly life can change and how grateful we are for our safety and the bravery of our local firefighters.
Reflecting on September
September 2024 was a month of growth and resilience. From Aiden’s volleyball success and Madilyn’s high school milestones to navigating the challenges of a house fire, we were reminded of the importance of family, community, and perseverance. As we move into October, we carry with us gratitude for the safety of our loved ones and excitement for what lies ahead.
