Three Months Old Today!

Madilyn is three months old today (okay, technically, she is 12 weeks old today).  Can you believe it?  We cannot.  It seems like she has grown so much in 12 weeks.  She isn't that somewhat tiny, fragile, little baby that we brought home from the hospital.  She is turning into quite the little person.

Madi visited her pediatrician for her 2 month well baby check-up on May 5th.  We are happy to report she is healthy and the pediatrician is very pleased with her progress thus far (although she was a little surprised that Madi drinks 6 ounces of formula at almost every feeding).  What can I say ... she is a hardy eater.  At this baby check, Madi received her first set of immunization shots.  She was such a good baby.  She didn't even realize she was getting her shots until she received the second one and then she only cried briefly.  We were so proud.  Her stats as of this visit were:
  • Head circumference - 15 inches (20th percentile)
  • Height - 23.75" (85th percentile)
  • Weight - 12 pounds, 6 ounces (76th percentile)
Here are a couple of pictures from her 2 month well baby check.

Since our last post, we are proud to report Madi is continuing to sleep through the night.  She usually goes to bed around 9 o'clock at night and doesn't wake up until about 6 o'clock in the morning.  We are still amazed and feel so blessed.

Here are some other random facts about Madi:
  • One of her favorite activities is to lay on her playmat and "play" her piano.  It is an electric musical toy that we have propped up so she can kick at it to make music.  She gets so excited.  How much fun to watch her realize the cause and effect of her actions.  Here is a photo of her "playing" her piano.

  • We also think Madi is teething.  Too early, you say?  That's what we thought too until we did some research.  Apparently, some babies can start teething at about 3 months of age.  Our little girl is drooling all over the place, sticking out her tongue constantly and sucking on her entire fist.  Only time will tell...

  • For bath time, she has graduated from the kitchen sink to the infant bathtub which has been placed in our guest bathtub.  Madi is a huge fan of bath time and enjoys just lounging in her tub while Mommy or Daddy bathe her.  I cannot wait to see her in the swimming pool this summer.

  • She is really starting to kick her feet and move her hands.  She really gets into it and often gets frustrated because she wants to go somewhere.  As a matter of fact, here is a photo of Madi with her foot stuck in one of her playmat toys.  She had completely transitioned herself sideways on the mat.  How hysterical!  She didn't even cry, just kept kicking, smiling the entire time.

  • For the most part Madi is a very happy baby, but she has her fussy moments too.  Usually, this moment occurs everyday around 6 o'clock in the evening.  She usually needs a little nap before her bedtime routine -- feeding her a bottle and reading her a bedtime story -- but she will fight taking a nap as long as she can.  She can go from being the happiest baby on the block to the grumpiest.  Take a look at the vast difference in her happy and sad face.

On a side note, Josh and I celebrated our first year anniversary on May 9th which happen to coinside with my first Mother's Day.  I love you, Josh!  What a crazy year we had ... we married, got pregnant and had a baby.  I am so lucky to have found you and cannot wait to see what this next year brings.  This special day was very enjoyable and the weather was much more bearable than last year.  We spent the morning playing golf with my parents while Oma watched Madi.  And the afternoon was spent dining on crab legs and steak at my parents home.  Fun was had by all and no one left hungry!

This is like the greatest thing in the world. I can't remember ever having or at least making enough time to do a wonderful blog like she has. Wow! And Madi is absolutely, incredibly adorable.
