March 2023

March was a busy and exciting month for our family. Here are some of the highlights from our activities and special moments.

Read Across America Day:
Every year, Lookout Mountain Elementary School celebrates Read Across America Day on March 2nd, honoring Dr. Seuss's birthday. This year, the excitement was palpable as the kids dressed up as their favorite characters from Dr. Seuss’s beloved books. Aiden chose to be the iconic Cat in the Hat. He looked absolutely adorable in his red and white striped hat and bow tie. The day was filled with reading sessions, themed activities, and a special assembly where teachers read their favorite Dr. Seuss books. The whole school buzzed with a love for reading and imagination.

Madilyn's Cheer Competition in Las Vegas:
Madilyn’s cheer competition with the Arizona Prestige Cheer team took us to Las Vegas, an exciting destination for a big event. We stayed at the Westgate Hotel and Casino, which was buzzing with cheerleaders and their families. The competition was intense, with teams from all over the country showcasing their skills. Madilyn’s team performed brilliantly, earning a well-deserved 2nd place in their division. One of the highlights of our trip was a surprise visit from Addison and Jamie, who were also in Vegas for Addison’s soccer tournament. They cheered on Madilyn during her performance and then joined us for an afternoon of shopping and exploring. We visited the shops at Caesars Palace and took a ride on the monorail, stopping at various malls along the way. The day ended with a fun dinner and amazing shakes at Holstein’s in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Despite the long drive home, the trip was a fantastic bonding experience for Madilyn and me.

Aiden's Overnight Trip to Camp Tontozona:
Aiden’s overnight trip to Camp Tontozona was a significant event for the 6th graders at Lookout Mountain Elementary. The camp is nestled in the beautiful Tonto National Forest, providing a perfect setting for outdoor learning and adventure. The kids participated in various activities, including hiking through scenic trails, learning about local flora and fauna, and enjoying campfire stories and songs. They slept in rustic dorms, which added to the excitement of being away from home. One of the highlights was conducting science experiments in the great outdoors, where they learned about ecosystems and conservation. Aiden came home with tales of adventure, newfound knowledge, and a stronger bond with his classmates.

Madilyn's National Honor Society Induction:
Madilyn’s induction into the National Honor Society at Mountain Sky Junior High was a proud moment for our family. The induction ceremony was a formal event, recognizing students who excel academically and demonstrate strong leadership qualities. Madilyn’s hard work and dedication to her studies were celebrated as she received her NHS pin and certificate. The event also included speeches from faculty members and current NHS members, highlighting the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Seeing Madilyn up there, being honored for her achievements, was an incredibly proud moment for us.

St. Patrick’s Day Shabbat:
This year, St. Patrick’s Day coincided with Shabbat, offering a unique opportunity to blend traditions. We incorporated green decorations and traditional Irish foods into our Shabbat dinner. We enjoyed corned beef, cabbage, and Irish soda bread, alongside our usual Shabbat staples. It was a fun evening where we shared stories about Irish culture and the significance of St. Patrick’s Day, making the Shabbat dinner even more special. The kids loved the blend of festivities, and it was a night filled with laughter and good food.

Aiden's Growing Passion for Lacrosse:
Aiden’s interest in lacrosse has grown significantly. He spends weekends playing with the Arrowhead Warriors, where he’s developing his skills and building strong friendships with his teammates. We’ve made it a family activity to attend high school and college lacrosse games, cheering on teams like Brophy College Preparatory and GCU. These outings are great opportunities for Aiden to learn by watching more experienced players and understanding the strategies of the game. Additionally, Aiden started working out with a personal trainer to improve his speed and agility, essential skills for a lacrosse player. These training sessions are not only enhancing his physical abilities but also his confidence on the field.

Madilyn's Social Calendar:

With many of Madilyn’s friends becoming bar or bat mitzvahs, her weekends have been filled with celebrations. These events are significant milestones in their lives, and each party is a unique celebration of culture and friendship. In March, Madilyn attended a bat mitzvah with her Camp friends. The party was a fantastic mix of traditional ceremonies and modern fun, with dancing, games, and plenty of laughter. These gatherings allow Madilyn to strengthen her bonds with her friends and create lasting memories.

Family Outing to See Annie:
One of the highlights of the month was our family outing to see Annie at ASU Gammage. This was a special Christmas gift for my parents, and it turned into a wonderful multigenerational experience. On March 26th, we gathered for dinner before heading to the theater. The performance was spectacular, bringing back fond memories for everyone, especially my parents, who enjoyed sharing this classic musical with their grandchildren. The night was filled with singing along to favorite tunes, lots of laughter, and enjoying each other’s company. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday evening, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

March was a month full of activities and special moments that brought us closer together as a family. We look forward to more adventures and cherished memories in the coming months!
