Southern Arizona Adventure

A couple of weeks back, we decided crazily to take Madi on her first camping trip with Josh's friends. In actuality, camping was just an afterthought. The main reason for the trip down south was to visit some of the Arizona wineries in Sonoita. After reading some pretty good reviews, we decided to check them out. So, we embarked upon our adventure. We spent most of Saturday wine tasting, enjoying good friends and great weather.

After visiting our fifth Arizona winery, we ascended up the steep, narrow switchback road of Carr Canyon in the Huachuca Mountains outside of Sierra Vista. We quickly set up camp and settled in for an interesting evening. Unfortunately, Madi's first camping trip did not go as smoothly as we had hoped. Our poor little baby ended up being constipated all evening despite the numerous bottles of apple juice she drank. The night air also was a bit more chilly than expected. Madilyn was bundled up ready to weather the cold air, but I, on the otherhand, did not pack as well. No matter what, I just couldn't warm up. So, Madi and I ended up *trying* to sleep in the car while Josh slept in the tent. And finally at midnight when Madi and I fell asleep while she was craddled in my arms, I and the rest of the campground was awakened by a horrible ruckus. Two drunk, male campers in an adjacent campsite decided to get into a very loud, abrasive, profanity-ridden bruhaha. The two men screamed at each other while their wives in extremely high-pitched voices screamed back at them. At one point in the fight, one of the men threatened to chew the nose off of the other man's face. It was awful and lasted for at least an hour until they each jumped into their separate vehicles and drove down the mountain. And wouldn't you know, as soon as the argument concluded, Madi awoke uncomfortable and unhappy again. This mommy was very tired the next morning and was looking forward to the four hour drive home just to get some sleep.

However, before we made our way home on Sunday, we had decided to also visit Kartchner Caverns State Park. Neither Josh nor I had ever visited the caverns before, so while we were in the area we thought we should visit this natural beauty. Our tour guide at the caverns was a tad more than boring, so Madilyn and Josh decided to leave the tour halfway through and met me at the end. The caverns are pretty impressive, but after a sleepless night, I was just ready to get on the road home. Overall, it was a great adventure. Definitely, one we will not soon forget. And when we do, here are the photos to remind us.
