Aiden's Fractured Elbow

At the end of January, Aiden experienced another childhood rite of passage.  A cast!  We are not 100% sure how he fractured his elbow, but the story that we were told involves a Saturday play date with some of his friends and the playroom couch.  He may or may not have fallen off of the couch. He may or may not have been pushed off of the couch.  Or they may or may not have been wrestling on the couch.  Either way, after two days of icing, ace bandaging, and medicating the situation, we decided that a trip to the urgent care was in order where it was determined that he did, in fact, fracture his elbow.  The urgent care visit was a less that optimal experience.  In fact, it was miserable.  After we found out he did have a fractured elbow, they recommended a semi-permanent cast until we could visit an orthopedic surgeon.  Aiden didn't want to get the semi-permanent cast.  He fought the entire process.  At one point, the nurse even told Aiden that we can do it the easy way or the hard way.  Aiden opted for the hard way.  So, with two nurses and me pinning Aiden down, we finally got the semi-permanent cast on his arm.  He continued to throw a tantrum for the remainder of the urgent care visit and didn't even want the popscicle that was offered to him as a consolation prize.  Luckily, we were able to get into the recommended orthopedic surgeon the same afternoon.  After briefly reviewing the x-rays that we supplied, it was recommended that Aiden's arm be placed in a full cast for five weeks. Unlike in the urgent care, Aiden was really excited to get a cast this time because he could choose the cast's colors.  Guess what?  He selected red and blue so he could have a Spider-Man cast!  It is a really cool cast.

Postscript as of March 8th, 2017:
Yesterday, Aiden went for his cast removal appointment.  Yeah!  His fractured bone has healed nicely and he doesn't need to have any further treatment.  He was sad to say goodbye to his Spider-Man cast.

All gone!  Now just super itchy!

I love your story. It has so much flavor of a small boys world.
