Road Trip to Visit GG

In mid-January, we traveled to California, to visit Selma (GG) as we had not seen her in months.  After Stan's death, Selma sold the home in Laguna Woods and moved to Sage Mountain, a senior living center, in Thousand Oaks so that she could be closer to her family.  Her new home is centered between Camarillo, where Lori and Richard live, and Calabasas, where Alisa, Gabriel and the kids live.  This allows her to still be connected with everyone while still maintaining her own independence.

We drove into California Friday mid-day so that we could spend Shabbat with everyone at Alisa's home.  The kids loved playing with their cousins while the adults enjoyed great conversation and homemade old-fashioneds.

The next morning, we woke up and headed out on a family hike.  We hiked down to Paradise Falls in the Wildwood Regional Park.  It was about a 2.5 mile round trip hike.  The kids only really enjoyed seeing the waterfall.  The rest of the time was spent complaining that it was too hot or that we walked to fast or the hike was too hard.  Maybe someday they will appreciate hiking in nature.

After the hike, we visited with Selma at her new residence.  It is really perfect for her.  A two room suite that allows her enough space for entertaining and living.  She was so excited to give us a tour of the facility.  We enjoyed lunch in the dining room.  The kids were so excited that GG allowed them to get ice cream for dessert.  We were going to watch a movie in the entertainment area, but they couldn't figure out how to get the television/video to work.

Saturday evening, we joined Lori and Richard for an adult night out at an amazing Italian restaurant.  The food was magnificent and the adult interaction was great.  Plus, the kids really enjoyed their independence.  We ordered take-out from Chili's, and they enjoyed watching shows and playing games on their iPads while we were away.

On Sunday before we drove back home, we picked up Selma and visited with Lori and Richard at their home for brunch and card playing.  It was a nice way to conclude our short little visit.
