Family Dog Update

Another perk of being quarantined at your home for the last past seven weeks is the amount of quality time we have been able to spend with our dogs.  I think they are really enjoying the extra attention and love.  They have been going on morning runs and walks with us.  They have enjoyed hiking on the weekends with us.  They have been getting extra treats.  They love laying under my feet in the office while I work.  All in all, I think they are growing accustom to having us around.

Unfortunately, Harley was hurt on our long Easter day hike.  We didn't notice it on the hike itself, but afterwards, he was profusely licking his paws.  When we turned them over, we realized that he had sliced them pretty deeply.  One was much worse than the other, but both were injured.  We quickly cleaned them and bandaged them up.  They seemed to worsen by the next day so we made a vet appointment and dropped him off.  During this new time of COVID-19, the process is much differnt than pre-COVID.  You cannot be in the vet's office with your pet.  The veterinarian's staff person comes to your vehicle to pick up your pet.  You then wait in the car until the veterinarian exams your pet and then calls you to provide you an update.  Then, the staff person delivers your dog back to your vehicle once the visit is over.  In the end, we were instructed to keep Harley's paws in the provided bandages for a week.  He was provided with some medication to assist with the pain and the infection.  And we told to return in a week to see if he needed to keep the bandages on for any additional time.  Harley was so good.  He wore the bandages for an entire week and didn't chew them off once.  Thankfully, his paws looked really good after the week of rest and he was allowed to go on short walks to rebuild the callouses on his paws.
