9 Months Old

Last Thursday was Aiden's nine month pediatrician visit. Per the doctor, he is developing very well and seems to be a very happy baby.  Aiden received the normal vaccinations and also had his toe pricked to check for anemia. Like usual, he only cried for a short period of time after his shots before he was smiling and ready to play again.

Aiden's stats as of this visit were:
  • Head circumference - 17.75" (53rd percentile)
  • Height - 29.5" (90th percentile)
  • Weight - 22 pounds, 4 ounces (87th percentile)
We have a very BIG boy!

Here are some of Aiden's developmental milestones at this age ...
  • He is mobile.  He just started to crawl this past Sunday.  What a wonderful Mother's Day gift!

  • He is a very good eater.  Even though he does not have *any* teeth, he loves table food.  He wants to eat everything that we eat and will watch you intently until you share your food with him.  He no longer wants Mommy or Daddy to feed him and gets very frustrated if you do not let him try on his own.  We have resorted to giving him some Cherrios to snack on while we feed him the substantial food so he isn't hungry later.  It seems to work well that way.
  • Aiden is mezmorized by his sister.  He will watch her as she plays around him.  And if she even gets close to him, he gets the biggest grin on his face.
  • He loves bathtime. He loves splashing around in the water and "diving" to get all of his bath toys.  We have to be careful because he will "dive" forward without a moment's notice.  Madi even enjoys taking baths "together" with her brother.  They are very cute together.
  • He loves to shake his head from side to side when he is happy.  We call his "head dancing".  Apparently, I must do this and he has started to mimic me.
  • Aiden has started to express a little apprehension around strangers or with people he has not seen in a while. It only takes him a couple of minutes to feel comfortable again and then he is happy to be passed all around the room.
  • Aiden also sometimes looks like a bird trying to take off as he flaps his arms up and down as fast as he can.  He gets so excited and they just start flailing everywhere.
  • He is so different than Madi.  It amazes us how two kids from the same parents can be so different.  He loves to explore how things work, not just what they are.  He opens and closes cabinet doors.  He plays with the faucet and drain in the bath tub.  He is so inquisitive about the mechanics of everything.
  • Aiden has started to pull himself up.  He likes to pull himself up on the fireplace and the edge of the bathtub.  He is ready to get vertical.
  • He feeds from his bottle by using both hands and both feet.  It reminds us of our own little baby monkey.
