madi's moments ... mommy & me time

About a month ago, one of my non-profit organizations, P.E.O. International, decided to organize a Girls' Night Out trip to the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix.  I had heard wonderful things about this institution and had never had the chance to visit so I decided it would be a great adventure for Madi and me.  Just the two of us (and my fellow philanthropists).  After picking up Madi at preschool, the two of us headed straight to the museum.  It had been decided that everyone from our organization would meet in the museum's little cafe for dinner and then we would go explore the museum together.

Madi and I arrived a little early, but used the time to make Madi feel comfortable with the new surroundings.  Plus, we had a chance to check out the children's room where we read some books about different instruments from around the world.  We then went into the cafe to start eating dinner while we waited for everyone else to join.  The food in the cafe was delicious and Madi enjoyed sharing some fresh fruit, a turkey sandwich and cookie with me.  All of my P.E.O. friends enjoyed watching Madi continue to eat and eat and eat.  She was like a bottomless pit.

After dinner, it was time to explore the museum.  However, before we could go exploring we had to get our wireless headsets.  Guests are given wireless headsets to wear throughout the museum. As they approach each display, they can hear the instruments being played, either solo or as an ensemble.  Audio and video clips familiarize guests with the unique sounds of each musical culture, allowing them to share a common experience.  They even gave one to Madi.  She looked so adorable walking around the museum with her headset on.  Here take a look at the two of us at the museum:

Unfortunately, it was already starting to get pretty close to Madi's bedtime, so I decided that we would go to the Experience Gallery first even though everyone else decided to head upstairs.  This section of the museum allows visitors to bang a gong, strum a Burmese harp, and play unique instruments from all corners of the world.  Madi loved this exhibit.  She loved touching and playing all of these exotic instruments.  As a side note, she really loved her headset.  She played all of the instruments with it on and didn't take it off until the very end.

Here are a couple of videos of Madi playing the instruments.

Thank you fellow CU sisters for providing this fun outing for this Mommy and her daughter.  We really enjoyed our short little field trip.

What a cool place! I cannot believe she kept the headphones on for that long; I can't even get Felicity to wear a headband.

What a fun adventure!
