Summer Swimming

This summer, we decided that the kids should take swimming lessons.  We both firmly believe that our kids need to be strong swimmers.  Sadly, Aiden's swim lessons never worked out due to our crazy summer schedules.  However, we did get Madi's lessons scheduled during mid-July.  The lessons were scheduled at six o'clock every weeknight for two weeks.  We figured that Madilyn would do really well since she *loves* to swim and her skills had been improving more every time she swam.  Well, we took her to lessons the first night and it was a fiasco.  As soon as Josh dropped her off with her swim instructor, she screamed and cried the entire class -- thirty minutes straight.  She would do the exercises that the instructor would ask her to perform, but the tears and cries continued.  We really thought that half way through the class, she would calm down and start enjoying the class.  Nope, she just continued to scream for "Mommy" or "Daddy" with the tears rolling down her face into the pool water.  Crazy!

Well, we continued this routine for the first week with the same result every day.  Madi never stopped crying the entire class time.  Prior to and after the class, she would be very content and normal as we traveled to the lessons.  But as soon as her body hit the water, the tears would form and she was completely inconsolable.  After a week of this behavior, we decided to stop taking Madi to swim lessons.  We did not want her to dislike swimming.

However, I am happy to report that despite the failed attempts at swim lessons, our daughter is becoming quite a little fish.  She still *loves* to swim and even insists on swimming without water wings.  She will jump right into the pool and swim to you or the edge of the pool.  She has even started to dive down a little bit on the steps to retrieve her toys.  We are so happy that we have a little water baby.  Maybe she will be a swimmer like Mommy.
