Weekend Trip ~ Laughlin to Laguna Woods

At the beginning of August, one of my clients had scheduled their annual health fair in Laughlin, Nevada, and requested my attendance to speak on health care reform and their employee benefit package.  So, of course, I agreed to attend.  At the same time, as a family, we were trying to plan our next trip to see Josh's grandparents in Laguna Woods to celebrate their anniversary.  So, once this business trip was scheduled, we decided to couple it with the trip to California and make a long weekend of it.

The trip to Laughlin was short -- we drove in on Thursday and left Friday afternoon after the health fair.  The health fair was at the Aquarius Hotel and Casino, so we stayed there on Thursday night.  Madilyn's expression when we walked into the casino was priceless.  I really wish that I had a video of it.  Her eyes opened very big and she looked right at me and exclaimed "Wow! I want to play that! (as she pointed at one of the casino machines flashing lights and making sounds).  She was pretty disappointed when we told her they were only for adults and she could not play.

On Friday morning, Josh took the kids swimming at the hotel pool and to one of another casinos to explore a Classic Car Show. I am very lucky to a terrific husband who is willing to entertain the kids while his wife worked.

The rest of the weekend was spent in Laguna Woods visiting with GG and GP.  We were lucky to also spend time with Dion and Katz as they were visiting from Israel.  The weekend created many fun memories:
  • Friday night, we all enjoyed Shabbat together after the long drive from Nevada
  • Saturday, the women went clothes shopping for the kids, while the men took the kids to a nearby park.  Josh and I also took the kids swimming at the hotel to try to wear them out for naptime.
  • Saturday night, the adults took GG & GP out to dinner to celebrate their anniversary.  My dear friend, Kathleen, came to the hotel to watch the kids so we could celebrate sans the kids.  I such amazing friends.
  • Sunday was spent enjoying time at the beach.  We found a great beach at Crystal Cove State Park.  It was absolutely perfect -- not too many people, slightly secluded and very convenient to the parking lot.  The kids (and adults) really enjoyed themselves.  We are so glad that Kathleen, the Hughes family and Barber family were able to join us.
  • Sunday evening, we enjoyed a family dinner at GG and GP's home.  Dinner was great, but the kids were a little challenging as they were *super* tired from playing at the beach.  They were, perhaps, a little grumpy and there may have been some tears.
We returned back home mid-day on Monday.  It was a very fun visit and the kids were mostly good.  We cannot wait for our next trip.
