Atlanta ~ Stone Mountain

A couple of weeks ago, the entire family took a trip out to Atlanta, Georgia.  The trip had a two-fold purpose -- Jenn had an industry conference to attend and Josh had a college friend he wanted to visit.  So, we packed up the kids and flew across the country to explore the new city.  Atlanta has a nickname ... Hotlanta!  And we would agree the name is fitting, especially in June.  It was pretty hot and humid, but we had fun anyway.

On our first full day in Atlanta, we drove to Stone Mountain Park.  This is a fun amusement park and natural recreation area.  While at the park, we enjoyed visiting several of the exhibits and rides.  We were so proud of our kids.  They lasted the entire afternoon at the park with minimal crying despite the heat and humity.

Our first stop in the park was the Butterfly Adventures -- a wondrous indoor habitat filled with over 1000 beautiful butterflies.  We had the opportunity to feed the butterflies and become their friends.  The kids were really excited by all of the butterflies flying around.  The only challenge was keeping their excitement to a minimum so no butterflies were hurt in the process.

After the butterfly exhibit, we explored the rest of the park.  There is so much to do.  There are several rides that our kids could not enjoy due to their age.  There is a minature golf course, a hike to the top of the mountain, and several tourist-like stores.  One of the rides that we were able to enjoy was the train ride around the mountain.  The kids seemed to like it, even though the adults agreed it is pretty slow and somewhat uneventful.  The train ride travels passed the famous Confederate Memorial Carving right at the end of the ride.  It is pretty impressive.

We really enjoyed spending the day with Nitin, Elizabeth and their kids.  Thanks for showing us one of the tourist attractions of Atlanta!
