Dual Dentist Trip

In March, we decided to start taking the kids to the dentist.  We chose a really great dental office named Wee Care Dental.  Dr. Rick Meyers and his staff were amazing with the kids.  Since they are still pretty young and unfamiliar with the entire dental office process, the dentist primarily wanted to count teeth and examine their mouths -- no cleaning, no x-rays, nothing too evasive.  This was officially Madilyn's second visit to the dentist.  Her first visit was in August of 2012.  I didn't go as well as I had hoped it would.  She was fine until we were called back to see the dentist.  Then the tears erupted.  We did finish the exam, but not without forcing her through the entire process.  I think that I was more traumatized than her.

Well, this time around we hoped that since Aiden needed to start going to the dentist that would make it easy for both of them.  They would have a buddy through the process.  This time around we read "teeth" books to them for a couple of weeks to help them understand what they would experience.  They were both pretty excited.  They were asked to pick out balloons before the exam and Aiden quickly found the "Treasure Chest".  Josh and I were feeling especially hopeful when they both climbed into the same exam chair to wait to see the dentist.  It wasn't until Dr. Meyers started lowering down the chair that they both started to cry.  I think that Aiden would have been fine if Madilyn hadn't freaked out, but she did, so Aiden did.  However, as soon as the dentist finished examining Aiden, the tears stopped and he declared, "I want my balloon and prize."  It was like a switch flipped and he could have cared less about what just occurred.  He just wanted what he was promised.  Madi pretty much had the same response, but with a mommy death grip included. Dr. Meyers did give each kid a good report and told us to keep doing what we are doing as the teeth look very good.  I guess we are pretty lucky that our kids love to brush their teeth.  Aiden now even requests to brush his teeth before nap time.
