Thanksgiving 2017

Thanksgiving 2017 started with mimosas, bubble-loaf and the Macy's Day Parade.  This tradition was initiated with the Raetz family many years ago and we are so happy they were able to join us this year in the fun.  The kids didn't watch very much of the parade with us as they preferred to play upstairs, but Paige and I watched the entire show while the guys suffered through it.

For the traditional Thanksgiving feast, we hosted the Landers family and some of our close friends -- about twenty total in attendance.  Teresa and Gary had just arrived back in the states a couple of weeks prior after being in the Peace Corps in Botswana for the past two and half years.  To celebrate their homecoming, Teresa's brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and his girlfriend all flew into Phoenix for the holiday.  Gary and Robin, the Landers' good friends from Las Vegas, also drove down to join in the festivities.  Our crew of friends included Melinda and Michael, Mary Beth and Julie, and Christy and Brandon.

The afternoon was spent catching up, reminiscing, exploring the definition of family, playing outdoor games (and BINGO), soaking up the beautiful weather and enjoying the buffet of food.  Everyone contributed to the meal, so there there was to eat.  And even some leftovers for us all to take home.  We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate Thanksgiving.  We are truly blessed and grateful that we spent the day surrounded by family and friends.  That is one of the true meanings of this holiday.
