BASIS Update ~ GP2

Grading period two at BASIS Phoenix Primary ended right before the Thanksgiving break in November.  The kids are both enjoying school and working hard to learn everything they can.  Math still challenges Madilyn, but she continues to put in the effort to learn her multiplication tables.  She has a great Humanities teacher this year.  Every day Madilyn has to write an entry in her journal.  It is so amazing to see how much her writing skills grow from month to month.

Examples of Madilyn's journal entries

Aiden continues to excel in math.  He has already started to learn his multiplication facts pretty easily, which makes Madilyn frustrated even more.  Aiden is also starting to focus more on reading.  Just recently, he has started to enjoy chapter books and is currently reading The Box Car Children series.  During this grading period, one of Aiden's science assignments was to create a diorama of an ecosystem.  Aiden chose the desert.  Using materials from the preserve in our backyard, Aiden created a really impressive diorama.

Besides the academics, this grading period was full of fun activities.  Both kids decided to participate in an afternoon club.  Madilyn took yoga and Aiden chess.  They also both had the opportunity to go on a field trip.  The second graders went to the OdySea Aquarium.  Third grade went to see Charlotte's Web at the Herberger Theater.  I love that their school life is more than just math facts and writing assignments.
