Back to School ~ Distance Learning Take 2

In mid-July, our kids' school district, Washington Elementary School District, decided to start the 2020-2021 school year using the distance learning format.  Although it was not what we had hoped for, our kids were still excited for the new school year to begin.

On the Thursday and Friday before the first day of school, Aiden and Madilyn attended their virtual "Meet the Teacher" via Google Meets.  This is the virtual platform they will be using during distance learning.  During this meet-up, the teachers provided the kids with information about themselves and their expectations for virtual learning.  Aiden's teacher, Mrs. Fuerte, provided the best quote: "This is going to be a NEW experience.  But that's ok.  It's another for our toolbelt.  We got this!"

With the start of the new school year, we didn't want all of our annual traditions to go by the wayside.  They each received fresh hair cuts so they would look amazing on the Chromebook's cameras.

The first day of school officially began on Monday, August 10th.  Instead of taking our annual outdoor photos, the kids wanted to have their pictures taken in their classroom/playroom.  At 8:15am sharp, each kid logged into their Google Classroom to start their first day of school  It was a very odd feeling.  It was not the normal routine.  No hugs and kisses goodbye.  No bus ride to school.  Just a walk upstairs to put on their headphones so they could greet their teacher in a virtual classroom while I monitored from a desk across the room.  Very odd indeed.
