Road Trip Back Home

On the Sunday at the conclusion of the Farrell's Quest for Fun, we headed back to Arizona.  However, on our way out of town, we rendezvoused with Josh's parents at their hotel in Durango to entrust them with our kids for the upcoming week.  After a very short farewell, Josh and I enjoyed brunch before driving to search for a local hidden waterfall called Cascade Falls.  Per our river rafting guide, Cascade is a river through a slot canyon, with mountain runoff that provides a series of natural water slides and waterfalls to jump.  We were so excited to explore and hike something that only the locals really enjoy.  We had researched the location, but when it was time to actually find it, we couldn't.  Bummer!  We must have searched and hiked around the area for over an hour before we re-directed our efforts and hiked another trail.  Although our runner-up hike wasn't as exhilarating as the hike we were hoping for, but it was still beautiful and unique.

After our hike, we headed back into downtown Durango to explore one of their local breweries, Steamworks Brewing Company, for lunch and a beverage.

After our bellies were full, we drove west for four hours to Page, Arizona, our destination for the night.  Before settling in our hotel room, we stopped at the infamous Horseshoe Bend.  This is where the Colorado River winds its way around a huge rock formation in the shape of a horseshoe.  Definitely a sight to see, since we were in the area.  We couldn't believe the number of tourists visiting this monument, especially in the middle of July.  The parking lot was full and we did not hear a single tourist speak in English while we were on the trail at all that afternoon.
