Vancouver ~ Day 2

On day two in Vancouver, Josh and I decided to rent a Zipcar and travel up the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler.  The scenery along the highway was absolutely break-taking.  On our way to Whistler, we stopped multiple times along the way.  Our first stop ... Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.  We hiked the lighthouse viewpoint trail which was surrounded by gigantic Douglas Fir trees and luscious green shrubbery.  When we came to the end of the trail, there stood the lighthouse adorned with a majestic bald eagle.  What a sight!

Then we meandered north on Highway 99 through Lions Bay to Shannon Falls in Squamish.  We walked the trail to see the waterfall that drops over 1,100 feet from top to bottom.  Beautiful.

After about two minutes back on the road, we arrived at our next stop ... the Sea to Sky Gondola.  This is a ten minute gondola ride up the mountain to Summit Lodge and Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge.  The views were breathtaking!

After enjoying some spiked hot chocolate at the lodge, we headed down the mountain and continued our journey to Whistler.  Whistler is a quaint, mountain resort town.  It is most known for hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics.  Our afternoon in Whistler consisted of beers at a local brewery, oysters at Araxi Restaurant and walking through the Village Centre.

On our way back down to Vancouver, Josh and I decided to take one last hike through the lush mountain woods.  We discovered this very remote hiking trail which ended at a rushing river.  What an exhilarating little adventure!

Vancouver is very much a foodie town.  We experience one of our favorite meals of the trip on this night.  It was at an upscale German restaurant called Baushaus.  We sat at the bar and loved the entire experience.  The bartender and wait staff were thoroughly entertaining.  And the food was exceptionally delicious and unique.
