Christmas 2019

For weeks before Christmas, our kids decided this year they wanted to see Santa.  They came up with numerous plans on how they could accomplish this.  One of the plans included them getting in a huge box (which they created) and leaving it by the fireplace with a tag on it saying "For: Santa, From: Aiden and Madilyn."  They thought that Santa would just take the box home with him on Christmas Eve and then they would be able to live at the North Pole with him.  It was such a clever and cute idea, until Josh and I burst their bubble and told them that Santa didn't have time to take gifts home with him and they would have to wait an entire year to return home because Santa only visits once a year.  Another plan they concocted included leaving the GoPro on all night so they could "catch" Santa in the act.  Luckily, for Santa, the kids forgot to charge the GoPro.

In the end, the kids decided their master plan would be to just stay up and wait for Santa. We continued to remind them that Santa doesn't visit children who are not sleeping, but they were obsessed and wanted to see him.  So, we allowed them to try.  The only rule was that they could not have any technology to keep them up.  Josh blocked the internet from their devices to enforce this rule.  They fell asleep on the couch at about one o'clock in the morning.  Pretty good effort!

We thought, for sure, that this would be the year that the kids would wake us up early on Christmas morning.  Wrong!  The parents were the first to wake, yet again.  Apparently, I have really good sleepers.

Eventually, they awoke and we opened gifts while enjoying some bubble-loaf.   Santa's big gift for this kids this year was electric scooters.  Sadly, they weren't able to try them out right away as Christmas morning was rainy and cold.  But, as soon as the rain stopped, they took the scooters for a spin.

After our own family celebration, we headed over to my parents house to celebrate with them.  We opened gifts, drank champagne, consumed a delicious brunch, played games and watched the kids play with their gifts.  Overall, we had a very successful holiday!
