School Update ~ 2019

Wow, I cannot believe that my kids are half-way through the school year.  This past semester was much different than years' past.  The pace was much more calm and less stressful for all of us.  Both kids seem to be liking Lookout Mountain Elementary (LOM).  They have made some new friends and re-connected with some from preschool.  Neither of the kids have had too much homework.  Aiden usually has a spelling test on Friday that we have to study for throughout the week and a Wednesday writing assignment that is due on Friday.  Madilyn receives a homework packet on Wednesday which is due the following week.  The only frustrating part is that because our kids are not receiving as much homework as they were previously, we don't always feel like we know what they are learning.  But, I'll take that over the tears and anxiety of the past.

Academically, the kids have done very well the first two semesters.  Madilyn qualified both semesters for the Principal's List, which starts in fourth grade.  That means receiving a grade point average of 1.1 to 1.5.  The best part is that after all of her hard work this fall at Blossom Park she is receiving an "A" in math.  Woohoo!  Aiden is doing very well, too, receiving mostly A's and only a couple of B's.

This new school environment has also enabled our kids to do fun activities after school right on campus.  Aiden has enjoyed chess club, Lego club, flag football, and an Escape the Room club.  Madilyn joined Aiden in the Escape the Room club and is participating in a cheer-leading team as well.  I am really enjoying the fact that I feel like our kids have some more time to play and just be kids.  Let's hope the second half of the year is just as successful as the first.

This fall, we attended Lookout Mountain Elementary's Fall Festival as a family.  It was a really great event hosted by the PTO.  They had a ton of carnival games for the kids to play, bounce houses, hair coloring, a Ninja course, a photo booth and food trucks.  The kids really enjoyed running around and expending energy.

In November, LOM hosted a Veteran's Day Breakfast and Flag Raising Assembly.  As a member of the fourth grade choir, Madilyn performed during the assembly.  She was very excited to invite Papa to attend so that he could be honored for his service in the Coast Guard.

In December, Madilyn performed, again, with the choir during the Winter Holiday Concert.  Madilyn did such a good job.  She is really enjoying choir and has no fear of performing.
