Weekend in Santa Ynez Valley Wine Country

In mid-October, Josh and I had the opportunity to take a couples' trip to the Santa Ynez Valley wine region.  One of our friends had a destination wedding at Zaca Mesa Winery outside of Solvang.  We had the best time.  We flew into Santa Barbara on Thursday and rented a convertible.

We spent our first day driving up the coast to visit Rose and Ian who live in San Luis Obispo.  Along the way, we stopped at a couple of wineries and for a bite to eat at the Madonna Inn.  Once in SLO, we visited the infamous Thursday night farmers market and Bubblegum Alley, enjoyed dinner creekside at Novo Restaurant and Lounge and concluded with ice cream at Doc Burnstein's Ice Cream Lab.  We were so glad to have had the time to visit with our friends and see their adorable son, Calvin, for the first time.

The next day, we woke up and walked from our hotel (Hadsen House) into the heart of Solvang to enjoy some hot Aebleskivers (Danish pancake balls) and other Danish pastries for breakfast.  After strolling around the town, we headed out to visit some more wineries.  Rose and Calvin joined us in the morning until when we enjoyed lunch in Los Olivos.  It was the perfect day to sit outside, admire the beautiful winery landscapes, relax and wine taste.  We visited Foxen Vineyard and Winery, Demetria Vineyard and Winery, and concluded our wine tasting tour at Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard.

For dinner that evening, we walked from our hotel to a quaint little Italian restaurant named Toscana.  We had the best meal.  Plus, we sat at the bar and made friends with the owner of the restaurant and a delightful couple that frequented this establishment and provided us with some excellent recommendations and stories.

Saturday was wedding day.  But, before the nuptials, we visited one last winery based on the recommendation from our bar friends ~ Roblar Winery.  It was gorgeous venue and the wines were fantastic.  Enough so, that we joined their wine club.

Our evening was spent at Greg and Meghan's wedding which was held at Zaca Mesa Winery.  It was a beautiful setting for a wedding and we were honored to attend.  Wishing them all the best!
