Halloween 2019

For weeks before Halloween, all my kids wanted to do was Trick or Treat by themselves this year.  They didn't want "the parents" to go with them.  This created such mixed emotions for Josh and I.  We want them to be more independent, but this also meant means that they are really growing up and no longer need us.  Really a strange conundrum.  But in the end, we decided to allow them to Trick or Treat solo this year in our neighborhood.  They were given an time allotment and very specific rules on where they were allowed to go in search of candy.  They started canvasing the neighborhood on their scooters, but about halfway through the evening, they came home to drop off the scooters and finish the night on foot. While they Trick or Treated, my parents came over for dinner and to play Pinochle.  In the end, they returned home about twenty minutes earlier than they were expected home.  They really proved to us that they were ready for a little more responsibility and trust.  It was a very strange Halloween, but it made the kids so happy.
